Spearhead Academy apprentices attend Prize Day at Duchy College
Apprentices, who in October 2013 began their two-year course at the Spearhead Academy, attended Prize Day at Duchy College's Stoke Climsland campus on 26th June 2014.
Luminita Apreutesei (on the right), from Romania, was awarded Top Student of Year-One Spearhead Academy, having gained a Distinction in the Diploma in Agriculture.
Zuzana Skopalova (second right), from Slovakia, was unanimously voted Best Overall Full-Time Student in the Agriculture Department at Duchy College. This, out of 250 students, was a remarkable achievment.
Jack Williams (centre) from the UK, and Krisztina Majtan (second left) from Slovakia, both achieved a Merit Award in the Diploma in Agriculture.
Roger Clarke (left) is the Duchy College's Spearhead Academy manager and an inspirational driver for them all.
The apprentices will be joining participating farms in Romania, Slovakia and the Czech Republic for summer season work, before returning to Duchy College in October to start their second year on selected Cornish farms and at the College, and to gain an Agriculture Advanced Apprenticeship award.
Spearhead International Ltd and Duchy College established the Spearhead Academy, a 'Learning and Earning' partnership, with the aim of recruiting young people into the business to become future technicians and operators.
A second intake of apprentices will start the Spearhead Academy course in September 2014.
