Spearhead Academy: Apprentices, 3rd year
The 3rd-year intake of Spearhead Academy apprentices, from Poland and Romania, have started their diploma course at the Duchy College, Bicton, Devon.
In addition to classroom work and English lessons, they have been learning how to build fences, handle sheep and how to plough, and are joining-in with other students at the College. The diploma will be completed in February 2016, and the apprentices will then go on to local farms for work experience.
The 2nd-year intake have worked on Spearhead International's farms in the Czech Republic, Poland and Romania during the summer and autumn. Some are now back working on UK farms, taking day-release courses, and the others will return to the UK in the new year.
The 1st-year apprentices who successfully completed their 18-month apprenticeship in June 2015 are employed on Spearhead International's farms.
